Dear Eco-Cycle Supporter,

Welcome to your May issue of the Zero Waste business newsletter. Read on to learn about exciting new opportunities for your program beginning this summer, to recognize model Zero Waste business leaders and for Zero Waste news updates.

It’s Coming! Single-Stream Recycling for Your Business
We have an exciting new advancement that will soon make your Zero Waste Services program even easier! Early this summer, a program called “single-stream” will allow for both recycling streams — mixed paper/cardboard and commingled containers — to be combined into ONE bin. If you live in Boulder County, you may have heard about this program coming to your recycling program at home, and we’re pleased to tell you the same recycling convenience is coming to your business. Eco-Cycle operates the Boulder County Recycling Center, the facility that processes your recyclables, and we are working with the county to upgrade the equipment at the facility to sort these materials when both streams are mixed together. We’ll still need you to sort your garbage from your recyclables, but you’ll find that mixing the recyclables together into one bin instead of two will be much more convenient. Will this service be offered to all businesses? Absolutely. Eco-Cycle’s Business Services Department is working hard to make this transition as simple as possible for our customers and will keep you posted with further program details and start dates. So stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the latest edition of the Eco-Cycle Times to learn more about single-stream recycling and how it’s an important step toward meeting our goal of building a Zero Waste community.

Zero Waste Business of the Month:

GE Analytical Instruments
This Boulder-based business hit the ground running with their recent start to Eco-Cycle’s Zero Waste Services program. GE Analytical Instruments organized a Zero Waste team of 12 employee volunteers to manage the program in each department. Ambitious employees are looking beyond recycling and composting by putting the pressure onge analytical 2 manufactures to take responsibility for the materials that enter GE Analytical’s waste stream. One local supplier, Preferred Printing, has already enthusiastically committed to taking back used unusual packaging materials for reuse and recycling.

Bike Tires and Inner Tubes!
The Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM) is now accepting bike tires and inner tubes for recycling. A charge of 50 cents per bike tire will cover our processing costs, but there Bike tire pileis no charge for bike tubes. No other tires will be accepted.
